Primarily Speaking

image of a cartoon version of me screaming as I'm falling into a whirling vortex, accompanied by text reading 'THIS IS NOT HAPPENING,' pictured in front of a patriotic stars-and-stripes graphic, to which I've added text reading: 'The Democratic Primary 2020: Let's do this thing.'

Welcome to another edition of Primarily Speaking, because presidential primaries now begin fully one million years before the election!

DNC senior adviser Mary Beth Cahill has announced that there will be at least one female moderator at each Democratic presidential debate, and that they are committed to racial diversity, as well: "The DNC is committed to an inclusive and fair debate process. That means that all 12 DNC sanctioned debates will feature a diverse group of moderators and panelists including women and people of color, ensuring that the conversations reflect the concerns of all Americans." GOOD.

Let's take a peek at what's happening on Twitter...

Julián Castro tweeted: "I'll say it again: In this political climate, I will only support Democrats for office who will defend a woman's constitutional right to an abortion." Keep saying it!

Senator Kamala Harris tweeted: "We have seen proof that anti-Semitism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and Islamophobia are real. We have a president who has been fanning the flames of hate. It's time we had a president who lifted people up." Indeed.

Senator Elizabeth Warren tweeted: "In 448 pages, Special Counsel Mueller made it absolutely clear that Donald Trump obstructed justice, over and over again. Time for Congress to do its job and hold the President of the United States accountable." Yes.

Senator Cory Booker tweeted: "Our children are being killed at their desks and we do nothing. Parishioners in a church ... and we do nothing. Concertgoers in Vegas ... and we do nothing. The list goes on. Every minute that passes, gun violence takes lives. This is unacceptable and we need action now." Fuck yes.

And Governor Jay Inslee is maximum Insleeing:

In other news...

This is an incredibly frustrating article about Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who is castigated by the reporter for not being more fierce on the record on the subject of misogyny, despite the fact that we all know damn well the chief reason for her "failure to launch" is having fiercely called for the resignation of a popular male senate colleague against whom eight credible allegations of sexual misconduct had been made.

Mayor Bill de Blasio's approval rating in NYC has dropped since he launched his presidential campaign: A new poll commissioned by the Education Equity Campaign found that his "net approval rating dropped from 41% in a comparable March poll to 36% this month." Whoops!

Senator Bernie Sanders finally sort of (???) calls for impeachment, I guess? "I believe the Judiciary Committee should begin impeachment inquiries. That is inquiries, not impeachment, to determine whether or not Trump has committed impeachable offenses." Okayyyyyyy. He went on to make the "Trump wants to be impeached" argument, which is honestly one of the most bankrupt arguments I have ever heard against impeaching Donald Trump.

Joe Biden is probably somewhere practicing Neil Kinnock's secondary school graduation speech.

John Hickenlooper is still definitely running for president.

Talk about these things! Or don't. Whatever makes you happy. Life is short.
