The Case for Miers

LeMew lays it out.

I’m in total agreement. The point is that our choices are between a blank slate and a known quantity that we find repellent. Let her be confirmed. Then use it against Bush.

The GOP’s love affair with cronyism should be a big part of the ’06 elections, and having Miers on the court is another example we can use. If the choice were between Miers and some brilliant liberal justice, I certainly wouldn’t make that argument, but it isn’t, and it’s never going to be. It will always be between Miers and some revered conservative wanker—who will not split Bush’s base and will likely be younger—and Miers won’t be worse in her decisions than s/he would, so the only thing to do is let her in and use it to our advantage later.
