The State of the Union Thread

Here is a thread to discuss Donald Trump's State of the Union address, and all the surrounding stuff.

A number of Democratic women will be wearing white to the State of the Union. Some Democrats are skipping the address altogether. Many Democrats will be bringing as their guests undocumented immigrants, trans service members, and/or other people affected by Trump's deplorable policies.

So there might be a lot to talk about, even if you quite understandably have nothing to say about the vile trash that comes out of Trump's reprehensible maw.

Speaking of which... Trump is (of course) expected to again detail at length the "crisis at the southern border" in order to (of course) again demand funding for his disgusting border wall monument to nativist white supremacy. He is also expected to announce a plan to stop the transmission of HIV by 2030, which I frankly find chilling in the context of the alleged secret at the center of Cold Case Hammarskjöld, which just debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Trump is also expected to call for "unity," which would be hilarious if it weren't so fucking tragic.

One genuinely delightful thing to anticipate is Nancy Pelosi glowering over his shoulder through the entire thing. That's right! Speaker Pelosi's back on the dais, y'all!

Garbage Mouth's address will begin tonight at 9pm ET. The Democratic rebuttals by Stacey Abrams (English language) and Xavier Becerra (Spanish language) will air immediately afterward.

If I can muster the energy, I'll be live-tweeting it in a highly professional manner. By which, as always, I mean: Drinking wine and rage-tweeting.
