The "I Voted!" Thread
Here is a thread, as we have every Election Day, to share pix of yourself after you've voted, should you be so inclined! (As always, please no pix of actual ballots!)
Voting for a Woman President Achievement Unlocked. #ElectionDay
— Melissa McEwan (@Shakestweetz) November 8, 2016
I choked back tears as I stood in line to vote, and then the tears started to fall as I cast my vote for her. When Iain and I walked outside into the bright sunlight, I said, "I just voted for a woman for president." And I melted a little. But just a little. Because there's yet a long day ahead.
Election Day Open Thread
Welp, this is it! We'll just have an open thread today, unless there's major news that needs to be reported, because I need to keep my eyes on the news throughout the day. (And vote, at some point!) If this thread gets unwieldy, I'll open a fresh one.
LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!!!!

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton started a campaign event in Miami in the sunshine, and ended it in a deluge. Not only did the downpour not slow her down, but she seemed to enjoy every moment of it.

So let's get out; let's vote for the future! Let's vote for what we want for our country and our children and our grandchildren! God bless you!LET'S DO THIS!!!
In the News
Here is some stuff in the news today...
RIP Janet Reno: "Janet Reno, who rose from a rustic life on the edge of the Everglades to become attorney general of the United States—the first woman to hold the job—and whose eight years in that office placed her in the middle of some of the most divisive episodes of the Clinton presidency, died on Monday at age 78. She died at her home in Miami-Dade County, Fla., from complications of Parkinson's disease, according to her sister, Margaret Hurchalla." My condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.
Nope, nope, and more nope: "Donald Trump's cabinet-in-waiting is taking shape in the final days of the race, as aides eye a number of Trump loyalists for major posts should he win on Tuesday. Among the names being considered, according to conversations with three campaign advisers who requested anonymity to speak freely: Rudy Giuliani for attorney general, Newt Gingrich for secretary of state, retired Lt. Gen Michael Flynn for defense secretary or national security adviser, Trump finance chairman Steve Mnuchin for Treasury secretary, and Republican National Committee finance chair Lew Eisenberg for commerce secretary." That entire list is terrifying, but Rudy Giuliani as AG?! ABSOLUTELY NOT.
"The Justice Department announced today that its Civil Rights Division plans to deploy more than 500 personnel to 67 jurisdictions in 28 states for the Nov. 8, 2016, general election." Good.
This is a moving piece about EMILY's List on the cusp of electing (fingers crossed!) the first female president.
Here's a thing I wrote for Shareblue today: "Clinton's massive ground game reaches 14.5 million people in final weekend." Whoa, right?!
And finally! Please enjoy this video of a small dog dressed as a panda!

Two Videos
Number Two: The Story of Her.
Video Descriptions: The first video tells the tale of Hillary Clinton's campaign, from her announcement that she was running to president, through to this moment. It shows Clinton, her staff, and her supporters experiencing the highs (and a couple of lows, like losing New Hampshire to Bernie Sanders) of the campaign. There are behind the scenes moments, like a staffer asking Clinton if she's going to wear "those shoes onstage" for a primary debate, and Clinton responding, "I mean, honest to god, do you think anybody talked to Bernie about his shoes?" (LOL!) It goes right through her selecting Tim Kaine as her running mate, accepting the nomination at the convention, and debating Donald Trump. And it is AMAZING.
The second video tells the tale of Hillary Clinton's life, from her mother's struggles before she was even born, through her childhood, her young adulthood as an activist and advocate, through her entire career, explaining why she fights for the things she does, and drawing a picture of a diverse nation that is stronger together. A nation she clearly loves. And it is AMAZING.
The number of times @HillaryClinton's video team has made me cry this election is ridiculous.
— Melissa McEwan (@Shakestweetz) November 4, 2016
The starkest difference between the two campaigns for me is that @HillaryClinton's campaign continually shows me the America I love.
— Melissa McEwan (@Shakestweetz) November 4, 2016
I share Hillary Clinton's vision for what this country could be. It is an imperfect union, but we are indeed stronger together. I am eternally hopeful; I expect more; and I am committed, for as long as I have breath, to work toward making this a place where there is truly justice for all.
On Comey's "Supplemental" Letter
As you've probably heard, yesterday afternoon, FBI Director James Comey sent a "supplemental" letter to Congress following up on his garbage letter about emails found in connection with an investigation into Anthony Weiner.
JUST IN: NEW ltr to Congress from FBI says "we have not changed our conclusion that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton": pic.twitter.com/nn4rmNcQZR
— Frank Thorp V (@frankthorp) November 6, 2016
If you can't view the images, the full text of the letter reads:
Dear Messrs. Chairmen:I could spend the next eleventy hours of my life writing a response to his mess, and detailing all the ways in which it is breathtakingly unfair, unprofessional, and potentially disastrous for down-ballot races even if it doesn't affect the presidential race, but instead I'll just note:
I write to supplement my October 28, 2016 letter that notified you the FBI would be taking additional investigative steps with respect to former Secretary of State Clinton's use of a personal email server. Since my letter, the FBI investigative team has been working around the clock to process and review a large volume of emails from a device obtained in connection with an unrelated criminal investigation. During that process, we reviewed all of the communications that were to or from Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State.
Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton.
I am very grateful to the professionals at the FBI for doing an extraordinary amount of high-quality work in a short period of time.
Sincerely yours,
James B. Comey
Director
So, to recap: Was possible to complete review before election; they could have just done it and never said anything since nothing to report.

And I will grit my teeth and go on with my life. Because there's nothing else I can do.
ONE. DAY. LEFT.
This is it, everyone. The final day of the longest presidential election in the history of America. It's the last day of campaigning, the day of the closing arguments, the end of the road.
After a year and a half that felt like a decade, we have arrived at the final day.
Here are a few things I wrote over the weekend for Shareblue, as we head toward the finish line:
1. Trump's closing argument: A woman cannot be president: "Bias is about a lot of things: Fear, hatred, resentment, privilege. It is also about a failure of imagination. Trump is trading on the fact that many people cannot imagine a woman leading the country—and its military—simply because a woman has never done so before. It is a deeply cynical ploy, to try to leverage women's historical exclusion in order to maintain our continued exclusion."
2. For women, defeating Trump is a message to men who behave like he does: "When I cast my vote on Tuesday, I will be casting my vote for Hillary Clinton, because she is the most qualified candidate. I will also be casting a vote for women's equality; for my own equal rights, autonomy, agency, and right of consent. For my own value. And I will be casting a vote against Donald Trump, because he is manifestly unfit to hold office. I will also be casting a vote against gender bias; against every word and deed directed at me by men who wanted to convey that I am less-than."
3. She's earned it:
The way Clinton has campaigned throughout this general election should, at long last, put to rest any notion of an uppity woman who feels "entitled" to have the nation's highest office handed to her.I am ready for tomorrow. I am ready to vote. I am ready for Hillary.
She is the most qualified candidate ever to seek the presidency, and she is unparalleled in her command of issues both foreign and domestic. She has gathered a colossal amount of experience, and she has done her homework.
She has campaigned relentlessly, making speeches until her voice nearly gave out, and drove herself to exhaustion making appearances even when she had pneumonia.
She has gone on a listening tour, held large rallies, done intimate town halls, met with small groups of people at their businesses, at schools, at community organizations, at places of worship.
She has met with, and talked to, and listened to, and taken selfies with countless people across the country. She has shaken thousands of hands, heard thousands of personal stories, written notes to people she has met, inquired about how to help those in need.
She has said, over and over, that she will be a president for the people who vote for her, and for the people who do not.
She has told her supporters, again and again, that she does not take their support, their donations, and their votes for granted.
She has, in sum, worked for every single vote.
