When I am in the right mood and or situation (spontaneous small talk vs. compelled small talk), and the stranger is someone who is not being totally inappropriate in some way, e.g. telling me to smile or asking me about my reproductive choices, I love chatting with strangers!
Always a favorite topic: Pets. I love hearing about people's pets, and I will happily stand and look at pictures of pets on mobile phones while I hear stories about what makes them the BEST PETS EVER all day.
