Everybody Knows That Guy!

Karl Rove, anti-elitist, on Barack Obama:
Even if you never met him, you know this guy. He's the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.
Of course we all know that guy down at the country club! Why, I was just talking to Biff and Muffy about that guy with the martinis and the cigarettes, and Tish said, "How gauche! Must be nouveau riche." I laughed, and then we asked Julio if he could fetch us 'round some grasshoppers, chop-chop!

Seriously? Seriously? Karl, if you're going to accuse Obama of being too snooty, here's a thought: nobody under 50, and nobody with a net worth of under a million dollars, knows that "guy at the country club." We know snooty people -- they're the ones who go to country clubs enough that they use country clubs as a standard location when talking about how to attack their opponents for being too snooty. Kinda like you, Karl. But no, most of us haven't experienced the little tableau that you painted for us. But thanks, Karl, for reminding us why "Country Club" and "Republican" have gone hand-in-hand for generations -- and thanks for proving once again that your finger is anywhere but on the pulse of the nation.
