Louisiana politicians: Bless their hearts

There's something special about politicians from Louisiana. In a nation stocked to the gills with inept, incompetent and corrupt politicians, Louisiana politicos always finds a way to outdo them all

Former Representative and current lobbyist Chris John (D), is looking to make a run at David Vitter's Senate seat. John lost to Vitter in 2004, despite receiving $4,000 in campaign contributions from Tai Shen and Jane Kuo.

If the name Tai Shen Kuo rings a bell, it's because he was just charged with conspiracy to disclose national defense information to a foreign government in the espionage case that just came down, and included Yu Xin Kang and U.S. Defense Department analyst Gregg William Bergersen.

Sorry Chris, but fair or unfair, you can be pretty sure that taking donations from alleged spies could come back to haunt you.

Of course, in a party of hypocrites, Vitter (R) ranks near the top, as after freaking out over the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, being against same-sex marriage and promoting abstinence as sex education, it came out that he frequented a D.C. prostitute. But that's ignored water under an ignored bridge now it seems.

And then there's William Jefferson (D), whose faces the potential of life in prison for his rampant corruption that included investigators finding $90,000 stuffed in his freezer.

And don't forget Bush Dog Democrats' Sen. Mary Landrieu and Rep. Charles Melancon. Or a slew of other ethics issues involving Landrieu, Gov. Bobby Jindal and the indictment of former state Sen. Charles Jones (D) on tax evasion charges. And add to that a history of Louisiana Democrats switching over to the Republican party.

I'm no expert on the history of Louisiana politics, but it seems to have been all downhill since Huey Long was gunned down.
