“The 9/11 card. The legacy card. The trial-by-fire card. Hillary Clinton just flashed them all today. ” And Queen Hillary wondered: why must I deal with all these jokers? The cards are not playing out in the inevitable fashion Clinton might have liked. Obama has played more wild than expected.
The time for finesse? Over. Clinton will be forced to go negative. So says Bill. Which may be part of the problem. After the House of Bush, the people may not a restoration of the House of Clinton. How low will it go? Is anybody listening?
Playing the deuce? “Mrs. Clinton is recalibrating her message in hopes of producing Comeback Kid: The Sequel — achieving the reversal of fortune her husband pulled off with his second-place finish here in the Democratic nomination contest in 1992.” What we have here is one candidate with one message (hope) against another candidate who can’t choose which message to send.
Is this hand played out? Maybe not. “The Clinton nostalgia tour plays better in New Hampshire, so it’s premature to declare the collapse of the Clintoncene epoch.” Certitude only comes after the final card is played.
Wild cards? Why must New Hampshire and Iowa be played first?
