Well, this morning we got our visit from the President. According to the 'Breaking News' blog at the Union-Tribune's website, he looked at some rubble, talked to some people, said some typical stuff, fucked with the traffic, and flew away. From said weblog:
Bush ends whirlwind tourHmm. Dost thou employ a bit of sarcasm, Union-Tribune blogger? Perhaps indicated by repeated use of the word 'whirlwind'? If I've got my finger on the pulse of the county (and I'd like to think that maybe I do) I believe our lil' Red State Within a Blue State, as we like to call it, gives this symbolic visit a big 'meh.' We're busy with our paper masks and scorched houses, thanks. But, uh, good effort, dude. You almost looked like you cared.
President Bush boarded Air Force One about 1:30 p.m. ending a four-hour whirlwind stop in San Diego County where he met with victims, volunteers and emergency responders.
His tour took him to Rancho Bernardo and Escondido where he was scheduled to have lunch with firefighters but a surprise stop at the Rancho Bernardo-Glassman Recreation Center put him behind schedule so after greeting dozens of the 2000 firefighters gathered in Kit Carson Park he and his motorcade returned to MCAS Miramar to board the plane and took off moments later.
