This is why the Senate is such a useless institution. You have 100 pampered elite parading around an ornate chamber, each more paranoid and a-scared than the other to actually take a stand on what is arguably the biggest foreign policy blunder in U.S. history.
And you have the hyper-macho Republicans, led by the chinless Mitch McKookle, claiming victory over the do-nothing Democrats by not doing anything.
"Republicans on Monday blocked Senate debate on a bipartisan resolution opposing President Bush’s troop buildup in Iraq, leaving in doubt whether the Senate would render a judgment on what lawmakers of both parties described as the paramount issue of the day."
Right. So "paramount" is the issue that they agreed to do nothing about a resolution that did nothing. Because that's what a non-binding resolution is anyway, a statement with absolutely no force or utility. So the Democrats didn't want to actually do anything, and the Republicans beat them by doing nothing about doing nothing.
Don't you just love the fucking Senate? While Baghdad burns and our guys continue to come home by the droves in body bags, the men and women of steel in the Senate (joined by the questionable Joe Lieberman) agree to dither yet another day.
And I love John Warner, author of the bi-partisan resolution to do nothing, who voted for his proposal to do nothing before voting against his proposal to do nothing. That worked out for ya, didn't it?
Here's what Joe Lieberman said: “Have the courage of your convictions to accept the consequences of your convictions."
LOL. This prima donna, who never served a day in the military, but loves him some he-man George Bush strutting around in his Top-Gun gear, is going to lecture me or anyone else about having "courage". Must come with the bravery of being out of range, eh Joe?
And what's with Harry Reid going all Dirty Harry after losing his do-nothing resolution? “You can run but you can’t hide.”
Or you could choose to actually do something about Iraq, Harry, rather than getting bunched up over a resolution about nothing.
And we wonder why they hate us.
