All along the watchtower princes kept the view. The story is not Pelosi, Hoyer, or Murtha. The seers who couldn't see Bush for what he was for something like six years already know how the Democrats will turn out. See? What did you expect from Democrats? The only thing that could be worse than a Democrat in charge must be some crazy, liberal,
Yeah, what he said. M Shaw at BagNewsNotes:
Three weeks ago, the vultures were hungry for Republican meat. This week, the animals look more like the media eyeing the new Democratic leadership.
There must be some way out of here said the joker to the thief: Pelosi tempts disaster.
As incoming speaker, Ms. Pelosi will be dogged by skepticism — from within the party and without — about her political smarts and her ability to deliver a galvanized agenda.
There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief. Here's some news for idiots and savants. Nancy Pelosi has been dogged by skepticism her whole political life. In her case the idea that politicians somehow might be creatures of ego and retribution is suddenly new. The woman who forged the most ironclad Democratic caucus (as Hoyer noted) in fifty years is suddenly found so wet behind the ears she will rust out before her job even starts. Howard Fineman goes bad cop/good cop:
If Speaker-to-be Pelosi is going to succeed as Speaker of the House, she had better learn—fast—from the fiasco known as the Hoyer-Murtha Race.
Learn from the pundit, woman. Learn quickly or suffer your fate!
Does any of this mean that Pelosi’s speakership is defunct before it begins? Of course not. Democrats have an interest in seeing her succeed. They don’t want to play into the Republicans’ hands by turning the Democratic-controlled Congress into a soap opera. They don’t want the first female speaker to be a failure. Most Democrats agree with her on many agenda items.
Much is up to Pelosi. She has a reputation for never forgetting a slight or forgiving an enemy. But she has to realize that, this time at least, she was her own worst enemy.
But you and I have been through that. And this is not our fate. Rust never sleeps, mostly between the bulletproof ears of the Beltway Boyacracy. It tooks six years to discover the rube Bush and his boy Rove were not quite the geniuses. Six minutes seems enough time for some to declare the most accomplished and elevated women in national politics is suddenly a complete fool? If Nancy Pelosi's choices weren't wise, they were made and they are done with. While everyone rushes to judgment now, Pelosi will still be Speaker of the House in January. That will be Pelosi in whatever fashion she is wearing standing behind Bush when he gives his State of the Union Address early next year, not Dennis Hastert. Get used to it. She isn't going away. She didn't lose much this year. And she won't next year either.
The hour is getting late. All along the watchtower Republicans are reduced to watching. And those who applauded them for so long can watch too. Must suck.
Plus product analysis from CNN: "On the November 16 edition of CNN's The Situation Room, host Wolf Blitzer asked "how badly is [Rep.] Nancy Pelosi [D-CA] damaged politically?" while the question "Damaged Goods?" was displayed on screen."
The needle and the damage done? The Dems can expect quite a few needles from writers who have forgotten how much damage has been done in the last six years.
The spite girls are back in town. It isn't so much a matter of substance. You can argue that talking about the majority leader race is worthwhile and that it says something about Pelosi's leadership style. The Carville sideswipe at Dean is interesting. That's not the problem. It's that the patented 90's style smug, juvenile, derisive Kewl Kidz tone is once again ooozing through everything they say. (I could have sworn I heard the "Friends" theme song in the backround.)
Businessmen drink my wine. Or is it whine? Ploughmen dig my earth. No reason to get excited, the thief he kindly spoke. It would be nice if somebody kindly got real. Not likely.
