this country is so interesting.

Did you know that West Virginia is the most toothless state in the US, with 43% of its residents having lost 6 or more teeth to gum disease or tooth decay? 43%! That's incredible. To put this in perspective, how many of us have ever lost a tooth due to hygienic neglect? This picture, by the way, is revolting.

Dentists from the University of Kentucky are currently driving around Appalachia in RVs from town to town, handing out toothpaste and putting sealants on kids' teeth, for free, with the help of the local churches. One of the problems, according to these charitable dentists, is the misconception held by these people that losing teeth is a part of life. They don't know that if you just brush them, they last! Amazing. 6 or more! 43%!

So many red-state jokes, so little space.
